Over the past week I took some time to study the twitter accounts of some of my favorite bloggers on the web. And wouldn’t you know it I still know very little about their personal lives.
First on the list is Karina Longworth one of my favorite film critics working today. She has over 4,000 twitter followers. Her current job is film editor for the influential LA weekly, so she doesn‘t tweet as much anymore. When she was a freelance blogger over a year ago (for places like Spout Blog, the Village Voice, and Cinematical) she would tweet regularly from film festivals all over the world. Her tweets consist of links to her reviews, some dry humor about living in LA or a funny remark about a film she didn’t like. Her opinions are divisive and they can attract a lot of traffic to her pages (along with some angry comments).
Ezra Klein is a economics and policy blogger for the Washington post with over 33,000 twitter followers. He posts frequently everyday and is famous for using a lot of graphs and charts to back up is writing. His views lean toward the left side of the spectrum but he responds to many of his followers disagreements. He even posts rebuttals of his work as well. This, along with his carfully researched work, has made him one of the fastest growing political bogs on the web and a regular commentator on cable news. And his blog was acquired by the Washington Post when he was only 23.
Paul Krugman is an economics writer as well as one of the most read commentators on the web. He has over 400,000 followers on twitter. His name and reputation are responsible for his massive amount of online readers. The Daily Beast placed him the 2nd most influential liberal commentator (With John Stewart in first place). His output oline consists about about a couple blog posts a day. He doesn't respond to any tweets or comments. His writings for The Huffington Post can attract an average of about 5,000 comments.
