How long in journalism?
About 10 years now.
What social media platforms do you use?
Facebook & Twitter mostly
When, how, and why did you start?
I started using social media platforms in 2006 because I saw it as the perfect way to showcase my work to others. It also keeps me connected to all the happenings in Tampa or wherever I may be. I always know where to be and when.
About how much time a week do you spend using social media for work?
Approximately 4-5 hours of solid time on Facebook & Twitter.
Why do you use social media?
I use it for personal and professional reasons. Regarding personal use, I am able to keep in touch with my personal network of friends through facebook. These relationships I have had for years, and continue to build them. Social media is critical in my photojournalism work especially. I post info, pictures, and display my work. This benefits me usually for people looking for photography.
Does your employer require you to use social media?
I’m not required to use social media for work, but I definitely think it benefits me in the work that I do.
Did your employer offer training?
No
Does your employer have a policy about how its journalists use social Media? If so, can you describe the policy or share it?
No
How do you measure results?
Sometimes I can measure results from my work with feedback from other readers and users of social media. I receive posts and e-mails with both positive and negative feedback concerning my writing or photography.
Have you been satisfied with the results of your efforts?
Yes, I would say I’m satisfied with the results. I live a life where I meet new people daily and I appreciate everyone one of them. Social media networking has helped me in many ways.
